Bhopal| Union minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari and chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan dedicated a 61-kilometer long 2-lane road constructed at a cost of Rs. 220.95 crore from Biaora to Rajasthan border, at Biaora in district Rajgarh today. They also laid a foundation stone of 141.26 kilometer long Bioara-Dewas four-lane road to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 1583.79 crore.
Gadkari also made an announcement to develop Narmada river as a waterway to encourage water transport. As per an official communiqué, union minister Gadkari said construction of Chambal Express way and Narmada Express way would be undertaken in the state.
He informed people at a function on the occasion that citizens of Madhya Pradesh would get Chhatisgarh to Gujarat connecting facility after construction of this road. He also said that Biaora-Bhopal highway would be converted into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) Mode. The work will start within next four months.
Gadkari also made an announcement for construction of Obaidullahganj-Betul road soon. He said the length of the National Highways in Madhya Pradesh had increased from 5194 kilometers to 10188 kilometers in the last two years. Over 2000 kilometers long highways of the state would be developed as per the recommendations of the chief minister.
Gadkari told the gathering that 100 driving training centres would be opened in the state with an objective to meet the shortage of drivers and to provide employment. Ministry for Road Transport would provide every possible support to the state to develop bus-stands of Madhya Pradesh as bus-ports.
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said better arrangements were being made for construction of roads in the state. Now cement-concrete roads of high quality were being constructed which would not wear off for a long time.
Indirectly attacking the then Digvijaya Singh government without naming it Chouhan said Madhya Pradesh was known for bad roads more than a decade back but now the concept was changed. Good quality roads were being constructed.
