Lucknow| Denizens of City of Nawabs are likely to board the Metro by March end as the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (LMRC) has been directed to begin the commercial run between Transport Nagar and Charbagh by March 26.
The Chief Advisor of the Akhilesh government Alok Ranjan has directed the LMRC Managing Director Kumar Keshav and officials to complete all the work for the trial run at the speed of 30-km between the Transport Nagar and Charbagh covering about eight stations in between the two destinations and the commercial run by March 26 positively.
The tenders for the smart cards have already been floated for 50,000 cards for the first phase of commercial launch. The software development centre for the automated fare collection system is likely to be established by this month end. Talks are also on with banks and other agencies for ticketing and auction for canteen shops and pantry services would soon begin at all eight stations.
From Transport Nagar, the metro would be stretched towards the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport (Amausi Airport). The DPR for the underground metro station has already been approved by the Airport Authority of India. It will take at least two years to construct the same to make available metro services to air passengers. The project would cost Rs 290 crore.
To begin the work on the other end, two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) have already arrived in the state capital. The first tunnel would be constructed from Bapu Bhawan to busiest Hazratganj, heart of Lucknow. The work between the proposed Secretariat Metro Station and Hazratganj is to be completed by 2017 end. Simultaneously, the work on digging up and down tunnels from Charbagh to Husainganj would also begin from February.
