Itabagar| The Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkari on Saturday announced several new projects for Arunachal Pradesh, including a four-lane project and four new highways.
The Road, Transport and Highway ministry has sanctioned the remaining stretch of Itanagar-Banderdewa 4-lane project. The tender process for the first phase of the 4-lane project from Itanagar to Naharlagun has been initiated and work will start by March 2017. Work on the remaining portion is expected to commence by October.
The four new highways in the state will be Akajan-Likabali-Bame (119 km), Margherita- Changlang (44 km), Paka Gongo-Gogamukh along the left bank of the River Subansiri (125 km) and Tezu to Chapakhowa via Sunpura (20 Km).
Gadkari also assured to fund the east-west industrial corridor and frontier highway if the state government provides the land.
“We are going to invest Rs 50 thousand crore worth road projects in Arunachal in the next five years. We want to promote local contractors as much as possible. But for this, people of Arunachal will have to support us,” said Gadkari addressing a function here.
Gadkari also dedicated the 2-lane Papu-Yupia-Potin section of Trans Arunachal Highway and Hollongi-Itanagar 4 lane to the nation.
