Bhopal| The state government claimed today that as many as 40 lakh persons became literate in the state under the ongoing Saakshar Bharat Yojna.
Under the scheme, persons above 15 years age are being imparted workable literacy.
“Efforts are on to achieve 80 percent literacy rate in the state. Forty lakh persons have been made literate under the scheme so far”, said a state government communiqué.
About 26000 motivators have been appointed at gram panchayat level in the state for execution of the literacy programme. A total 17350 adult education centres are under operation in the state. Literacy classes are being held regularly through these centres. The scheme is operational in 31 ideal village chosen by Members of Parliament. All these villages have been made complete literate.
A public Education Committee is working to increase public participation in selected gram panchayat. Women are being motivated to participate in classes to increase women literacy rate in gram panchayats.
