Agartala| Another district of Tripura, is set to enter the country’s broad gauge rail map this month.
Construction of the 44-km Agartala-Udaipur BG line has been completed, and the NF Railway plans to roll out the first BG train on the track later this month. Udaipur lies in the State’s Gomati district.
“The newly laid track is ready. If everything goes as planned, the first train might be flagged off sometime in January-end. We are waiting for the higher ups to decide the date,” NF Railway sources said.
Inspections and required trails have been also carried out. Though the infrastructure required operating the train service is ready, construction of some buildings and link roads are progressing on war-footing.
The laying of track in the Udaipur-Sabroom section, which has been delayed due to technical reasons, is also expected to be completed by 2019, the sources said.
Also, the DoNER minister has recently released Rs 96 crore for land acquisition works on the Agartala-Akhaura rail link that will connect Bangladesh. The distance of the international rail route is 15 km.
Tripura had entered the country’s BG map in July 31 last year when Rail minister Suresh Prabhu had flagged off the Agartala-New Delhi ‘Tripura Sundari Express’.
