Uttarakhand builds 8000 toilets in 20 days

Udham Singh Nagar district got enlisted in the Limca Book of Records.

Constructing 8000 toilets within 20 days, Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand has created a new record under the Swachh Bharat Mission. It was enlisted in Limca Book of records for the large number of toilets constructed within this small window of time.

The district requires 76,016 toilets in its rural areas in order to be declared Open Defecation Free(ODF). 64,613 toilets have already been constructed in the area. ‘Swajal Pariyojna’ a World Bank funded project in India, executed the construction work in Uttarakhand.

Some of the towns in the district, Rudrapur, Jaspur, Kashipur and Gadarpur, have already been declared ODF. Khatima, Sitarganj and Bazpur, the remaining three blocks of the district are also expected to be declared ODF soon. The authorities are set to officially announce the district ODF by the end of this year.
